Clayton Emery's ShadowWorld

ShadowWorld was a fun series. I got to make up the characters and install them in a prefabricated intriguing world.  I wrote two of the three books.

One catch.  The publisher invented the pseudonym "Ian Hammel" for the series, so all the books would be racked together in the store.  *Sigh*

The Burning Goddess stars Zed the Navigator and Tiger Eye.  It's based on the module Demons of the Burning Night.

Stephen Bilias wrote Clock Strikes Sword, the second book. It introduced two different characters, Aivlys the Time Wizard and Hugh, an inventive sailor, who fall in love.

City of Assassins unites the two couples for a rollicking city adventure based on the module City in the Sky.

More on ShadowWorld...

ShadowWorld™ is/was a fantasy role-playing game set on the planet ShadowWorld.

ShadowWorld has hellacious weather. So bad, in fact, that people can't travel by boat between island-continents. They need "navigators" to shift them through semi-dimensions to reach other spots on the globe.

In the first book, THE BURNING GODDESS, Zed Niarmon is a navigator guiding a party to a primitive jungle island supposedly inhabited. The expedition finds out differently when every party member is ambushed and killed.

Zed barely survives meeting Tiger Eye, a jungle woman. Her tribe was unknown because they live high in gigantic trees. Tiger Eye actually fakes Zed's execution - chucking him out of the tree a mile high - to save his life.

Why? Because Tiger Eye is intrigued by the outsider's stories. Intellectually curious (always a cat-killing curse), she helps Zed hack to a lost city in search of treasure and magic.

The characters make a nice pair, and a fun reversal. Zed is the finicky navigator, all knowledge and no fighting skills. Tiger Eye, a primitive, jumps into action like lightning.

In the second book, CLOCK STRIKES SWORD, (great title!), Aivlys the Time Wizard meets Hugh, an inventive sailor, and they fall in love.

Between books, Aivlys and Hugh marry, then go to the capitol on a honeymoon.

In the third adventure, CITY OF ASSASSINS, Zed returns to a capitol city with Tiger Eye. He finds intrigue in that every other navigator in town has disappeared. Tiger Eye finds action in barroom brawls and a dragon attack.  Tiger Eye makes an impression in her scars and war paint.

Zed and Tiger Eye meet
Aivlys and Hugh, and the adventure proceeds from there.

ShadowWorld books are out of print, but they're around.
